For the past few weeks I've been putting up flyers (photo attached), educating people about domestic violence. The Sisterhood FMP have identified a desperate need for real, effective prevention programs. IF we don't educate our young people about what a healthy relationship looks like, the problem will keep compounding. Thank you to all of the shopping centres, community centres, sporting clubs, maternal child health/youth centres, Frankston council. It was disappointing that Karingal hub wouldn't give us permission to use their toilet doors but we hope that they can be involved in the future with other campaigns.
I attended a seminar called 'Protect your daughters by Dr Dina McMillan recently. She is a social psychologist, and has a Tedx video on youtube which gives you a taste of what she teaches, so that girls and women go into relationships with their eyes open. Its fascinating stuff. She doesn't vilify men, but does recognise that after 20 years of working with perpetrators of abuse, they are predominantly male and it's difficult for them to change a lifetime of bad habits.
I met with a women's district sporting organisation yesterday, who have enthusiastically agreed to fundraise for local prevention programs as their annual fundraiser, starting this year.
More to come on this once it's been announced.
